Does anyone know of a good reference manual that deals with all aspects of lines on a boat from tying knots, to splicing lines, to lashing a boat? This novice would like to have such a book in his library for his use and to help teach his kids. A book with diagrams would be great to teach the kids.
At present, I would like to try and splice a section of line to my outhull. Where the line exits the boom has been frayed and now the line is too short. I tried a knot but of course that won't make it though the block (stupid idea). The only options I see are to splice a line to the shortened outhull line or replace the line which, I assume, means popping the end cap off of the boom. I have modified the hole from which the outhull line exits the boom so no further damage should occur (Thanks to Mark Meis). Now, I just need a longer line---any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance for the advice on a manual and on splicing (or replacing) the outhull line.
