There's an interesting comment from Andy Rice in the current Yachts and Yachting. Having broken the top 3 feet of a carbon I14 mast, they were sailing with the same mast a few days later and have continued to use the same one since without any problems. As he says, do that with an ally one and it's time to buy a new mast!
