I can well imagine the re-tooling cost scaring an existing fabricator of "A" cats, but how much will it cost the competitor? Yes, the production costs are passed on, but to assume a faster (smaller hulled) boat will ultimately cost more is foolish. Consider for instance, the Hobie, which would cost more than most equivalent boats today, if you started from scratch. Why do we doubt that Technology and technique can provide a cheaper, better product?
