Here is the announcement from the Tampa Bay Catamaran Sailors commadore.
This is the same group that just did the much acclaimed 2001 Hobie Continental Championships.

The different plan is to make it a combination distance and buoy race.
The start as usual will be in front of Sail Honeymoon, then it will be up around Honeymoon Island and Three Rooker Bar depending on the class of boat then down into St. Joseph Sound on the north side of the Causeway. A gate will be passed through on the north side of the causeway. From there the course will go straight windward to the windward mark. After a number of turns between the Gate and the windward mark it will be back to the start/finish line in front of Glen's for the Trophies and Food.
The nice change is that this is a race close to land and very visible to the Causeway crowd. We are notifying spectators of the fantastic sight this will make for the New Year. Beautiful boats racing along the Causeway close enough to touch.
We will have a mark boat/Jet-Ski and are trying to set up for another chase boat.
Come one, come all! Try to race but if not it will be a great spectator event.
TBCSI Commodore,
Terry
