I'm not sure if you are referring to the idea behind the rule or behind this particular spreaderbar / hook...but nobody really knows the idea behind the rule. It is certainly vague and I expect that there will be some sort of re-defining of the rule or maybe even the elimination of it in the near future. I also suspect that the rule may be more focused on a few dingy sailors that are literally tied to the boat in some continues trapeze systems. Whatever the case may be, the rule has definitely gotten us talking it and manufacturers working on how to safely and quickly get out our trapeze systems in sticky situations.

I really don't see the benefit of this new Magic Marine contraption - the hook stays attached to the spreader after "release"?
