Wow, "in the water" tacks...
What is the water temp up there now?
My two oldest (6 and 7) and I took a Hobie Bravo out yesterday in 15 knots with 20 knot gusts. It was way too much wind for the 5.2. It was an absolute blast. The Bravo is extremely forgiving and simple to sail but I feel your pain on the tacks. I had to back out of every tack we tried. On the last tack before I decided it was getting too crazy, I actually ended up just doing a 270 degree gybe (bravos are boomless with very short battens so it was pretty docile). 30 to 40 knots? I think I would have had to spend another night on the islands. I've come to the realization that 15 knots is basically my comfort threshold on the Nacra. Hopefully, the more I am out in the crazy conditions, the more I will improve my technique to handle these winds. Luckily, all heavy days lately have been onshore with just heavy chop/no swells.
