We attached a compass in a similar fashion to our '04 Inter 20 for the Tybee 500. We just slowly worked some smallish screws (#8 I believe) through the trampoline material. No holes, just worked the screw between the weave in the fabric and tried to do so over a place with some reinforcement. The compass stayed just fine.
