Mine has the rear mesh as well- I was thinking it would be nice to have the mesh but have a "flap" of the solid material beneath (or even a "tube" running to the edge of the cover so the dirt, that gets through the mesh, doesn't end up pooled under the mesh?). They hold up well too- mine is ~6 years old and holding up well-
