Do we really need anything other than a Hobie 16 then we could find out who is the best sailor not who has the most cash.

Not everyone is as competitive as you, my friend! If racing was my only reason for sailing and since I already know that I'm NOT the best sailor, why would I compete? Perhaps the sport would not miss me, but I would miss the sport.
If I were never going to race, I would still have bought the Blade; light weight, single handed performance -for my needs it is almost perfect.
In a perfect beach cat world, maybe we would have the foresight to buy beach front property!
