Folks,

Planning and anticipation continues for the Lake Pontchartrain Multihull Championship to be held April 14-15 at Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville, LA. NOR is attached to this post.

A public park and launch will be reserved for the sailors just across the street from the yacht club. I've attached pictures of the launch and grounds in following posts. The Notice of Race is attached to this post.

Attendance wise we are still looking at around 10-12 A-cats including 2004 Tornado silver medalist Johnny Lovell who will be racing a Vectorworks BIM XJ. We believe at least 5-6 F-18's including Chris Green and John Tomko are coming and at least 5-7 I-20's from both FL and TX will be in attendance. Lastly, 3-5 Corsair trimarans are anticipated. Open class is invited also but make sure your boat rates 70 DPN or less. We imposed that Portsmouth limit to keep the performance envelope of the boats racing similar to maximize the number of races. Our hope is to make this an annual event that will build more racing on the Gulf Coast and get multihull racing interest back on Lake Pontchartrain.

The yacht club is offering a $7 Crawfish Julie dinner on Friday night for early arrivals. Grilled steak or chicken is included in the entry for Saturday night and burgers will be available Sunday afternoon for awards. We'll supply bottled water for the sailors on the water and a cold keg of Abita Beer for sailors (soft drinks for the minors) off the water.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Bob Hodges

Photo 1 shows where boats will be stored. You can see the new yacht club under construction (this is replacing the one destroyed by Hurricane Katrina). The yacht club currently has a temporary double wide trailer with bar, bathrooms, deck, and a large yard where a tent will be setup for the event.

Photo 3 shows another view of the boat launch. The water is ankle to waist deep in the enclosed area so it is very easy to recover and handle your boat. I sail my A-cat from this launch regularly and have a small anchor and styrofoam buoy for tying my boat to while I handle my dolly and end chocks.

Hi Bob

How much of an anchor and rhode do you need to hold your boat while you go and get the dolly and chocks?

This has been the only time I miss the crew! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The current plan of let the boat drift while I run back and forth.... doesn't work for me!

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

I use a very small folding anchor (the flukes are maybe 6" long). It weighs probably between 5-10 lbs. As long as the bottom is soft, it holds the boat fine even in 15-20 knots of wind with the sail up. I have a piece of soft styrofoam for a float, the line is about 12' long, I tie it to a forestay tang. Comes in handy and lives in my trailer box.

Mark,

In a pinch, I bet a center-block would work. I carry around a couple of those bricks with holes in them that might work. I use them to bury in the sand to tie anchor lines to while boat is on the beach.

That would be a "Cinder" or "Masonry" block... <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Sorry, been in construction too long!

"Center" block? I thought you might have meant cinder but so far off.

I would love to join in the open class BUT my 1980 TheMightyHobie18 Just misses the cut off. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you need a crew let me know.

Andy Humphries from Memphis would like to bring his H-20 so if you sail there are two. What about Mark Ederer and his HT. That would be three in Open and you have a class.

We are still at 10-12 A-Class, we believe 5-7 I-20's, 6-8 F-18's and 3-5 Corsairs in addition to any Open Class.

I will try to call ederer tomorrow. If you have his #, could you PM it to me? If not I can probably get it from Murray.

COME ON people, some people need to be in the open class with us!! Kind of seems silly for us to drive 3 hours to go to race in a class of our own... HA! Guess this is payback for getting a "rare" boat. Would we get a first, second, and third prize? Maybe a FIRST but also DFL award? I assume we would start with the F18 class if we were solo open.

Seriously though, need some others to show!

What we will do at this event if only two open boats show up is to still score and give awards for the I-20's and the F-18"s as separate classes but we will start the open boats with those two classes and then give awards for an overall doublehanded class. We're tyring to make this fun for everyone.

BTW, we plan to give away Louisiana goodie bags as awards instead of trophies (libations, spices, music, etc.). We did this a couple of years ago and everyone loved it.
