Posts: 833 St. Louis, MO, | I wore a Wetsuit shorty with a spraytop over it everyday the year I did it. Pretty comfortable until some night sailing comes along and then it might get cold. Many teams are switching to breathable (Gortex) Drysuits. They work well but are really expensive. Mike Hill www.stlouiscats.com

You can get by just fine with cheaper electronics, but you can't spend too much on gear like a good GoreTex drysuit and various breatheable and wicking layers beneath.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I can't STAND for things to cover my ears...I haven't really thought about it before now that I think back, I get really annoyed when a piece of gear / clothing covers my ears. I really feel numb to a lot of the sensations of sailing if I can't feel/hear the wind. I have some bibbed hats from several years ago (only one left) that just have a rear bib that keeps the sun off the back of your neck but rarely obstructs ears.

Posts: 829 Charleston, SC | The past 2 years, I've done Tybee in boardshorts and a rashguard. If it is going to be chilly at all, I'll wear a spraytop. I freakin hate drysuits...

Others have simply lost the ability to sense cold and hot through a natural loss of sensation or through ritualistic ingestion of numbing agents... <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I've heard that the rubber seals on a dry suit don't react well to sunscreen. Any truth to that?
Alec Yes, there's a lot of truth to that. No sunscreen is good for drysuit seals and ESPECIALLY the quick-dry (bullfrog) clear stuff (alcohol based). You can melt your seals in a week.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Apply carefully and only after you have put on your drysuit. Avoid the seals.
