Hello All

The NOR for the Race to Oxford is posted at www.sailcrac.com.

The beach cats will start 5 miles behind the 170 + lead slugs and attempt to catch them in the next 45 miles. A huge party follows at the lovely Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford MD.

CRAC was not supposed to be running this event but a brilliant use of the catch 22 principle has forced our hand.

You must preregister for this event on line or you will not be scored.

Take Care

Mark

Mark,

Oxford is my hometown, and I've been sailing out there off and on this past summer. Last time the "lead slugs" from annapolis came into town, I went out and got a first hand look at them. However, one thing that I've found in Oxford, is the lack of beach area. Theres the strand past the yacht club, but pray to your lucky stars that no boats capsize over there, because its infested with water snakes of some sort.

Oh Man...

What kind of snakes are you talking about?

My theory is you leave them alone.... they will leave you alone.....

We have permission from Tred Avon to use their beach. Overflow will be sent on down to the Strand. Last year it worked well for two boats.

Are you planning on racing this year?

I want to, but I doubt my boat, nor my sailing skills, are ready.

I actually learned to sail and race mono's at Tred Avon YC, and only recently gotten into Catamaran sailing. My H17sport would fair well against 16's and prindles, but against any spi boats, I'd get wasted if the bay-crossing was downwind.

I really don't know what kind of water snakes they are. One time I flipped my laser over there around the strand beach and they didn't bother me. They like to crawl up on the rocks next to the beach and sun themselves then swim out and chase ducks. They like to eat the rats that live in the rocks I suppose. I'm making Oxford sound like a horrible dirty place, when its not, Its my favorite town on the planet... its like a mini-Annapolis without nearly the amount of tourists, traffic or commercialization. If you have a chance, go walk out to the entrance to the town and eat at Latitude 38. Its pretty damn good food. Although, sailors will probably opt for the informality of Pier Street, which is just as good imo.
