You may have to take number. Have you ever sailed an F16?

Sailed a Taipan 4.9 once.

Before I bought my 20.

I often hear that a picture says more than a thousand words. Sure do so here. That mainsail dont seem to do much to support the mast.

Nothing wrong with commenting on pictures, especially if it can save a mast or the reputation of a boat/boatbuilder. Is it not? I certainly enjoy comments on my sailing by every Tom and Harry. I even enjoy hearing it from Mr. Dick and consider what he has to say, after all he might have a point which would make me a better sailor.
If we are not here to discuss and exchange experiences, why spend the time on this forum? Pictures are an excellent basis for discussion, even if the team onboard might be olympic class sailors.

On lightweight boats, flat is always faster in my experience. It's in medium conditions and especially with chop fuller sails might shine.

I am very impressed with Jake, John and the others taking time off work to arrange this event. I guess it is partly a labour of love, but it still have to be exhaustive at times. Kudos to you all!
Mr. McDonald and Vectorworks are really positioning themself in the beachcat market with this event. 10 new boats fully equipped must cost a lot to do, and they will probably have to let them go at a discount afterwards. That is a great helping hand to a F-16 class with a small used boat market. Hope this event turns out to be a good business decision for Vectorworks (and the F-16 class). Too bad the McDonalds have scored a RDS and a DNF, hope they get to sail the remaining races without mishap.

Once!? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> You dis the boat on that amount of empirical evidence?

I hope someone is checking your work at work!

The bottom line is they are there doing it and well... you're not! You don't get to the Alter Cup by accident. It's not like they pick the most prolific and long winded blow hard forum poster to attend the cup.

PTP, how come you didn't attend the Area D South qualifier? Maybe you could conduct an on the beach seminar and help some of these folks out, I'm sure they would love to hear what you have to say.

Why ya gotta be such a **** about it? It was a thought and I have NEVER held myself up to be an expert.. and did I not agree with Tad about his comment that it is just a still and should be taken as such?

I don't diss the boat. They are very cool. (when its too cold to sail and you've got a fully charge remote control <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> )

I make fun of Wouter, and the F16 is guilty through association <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I agree with Rolf... I would be happy to hear what anyone has to say about my sail trim. Like I said DAVE.. I am not an expert. The guys sailign at the Alter cup are clearly the best of the best but if I make a comment on the trim and someone with more experience than me comes back and says "well, in that situation.. blah blah blah" I would listen and think about it and maybe learn something from their comment. OH BUT WAIT... I shouldn't say a damn thing because I am not there and I am not an expert.. SORRY!!

Thanks T. You gonna come do Cinco de Mayo with us at GYC?

Love to ... BUT ... have to lay hardwood floors that weekend. My next race is JPOR.

You shouldn't say something because you don't have the whole story. (of course, this has never stopped me)

Those poor chaps could have had PERFECT sail trim for the whole race EXCEPT at that moment, and some group of armchair commodores are gonna bust their balls about it?

Sorry but if I want advice on sail trim, I'll ask for it from those whose opinions I respect. Certainly not from a snotty self-proclaimed know-it-all who, if you lined up his pontification from period to period would stretch for more miles than he has on "homebuilt" F16.

Top five against top five, bottom against bottom?

I believe the format is:

* After the first two races...the top 5 from both races form A Fleet...bottom 5 from both races form B fleet.

* The newly developed B Fleet turns around and sails next.

* Top 3 move into A Fleet

* Upon arrival to the beach ... boats are checked out and A fleet hits the water.

* bottom 3 shift to B fleet.

***** REPEAT *****

Note: You really want to stay in the A Fleet as the best finish in B Fleet is 11 pts (ie you win that race).

Jeez, whose virginity are you fighting for? Nobody are "busting their balls" but a photo is used for discussing what looks like hazardous sailing. With your attitude I dont understand why you dont use the "ignore user" button more often, and keep quiet about your use of it.

No, I really dont <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I like my 400lbs "barge" that plows through waves like a 1972 cadillac with bad shocks.

Different strokes, different folks.

Rolf: Sure, I'll just ignore it and miss out on all the fun!

Maybe more people should put ME on ignore? (this is an open invitation, it won't hurt my feelings I promise)

Some barge! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Had a chance to really look them over last fall. If I wanted a two man boat. . . who knows!

I need to chill out about this but it isn't like anyone is saying "Wow, that sail trim looks like CRAP.. I bet that is so and so who obvuously don't know what the hell they are doing!!!! I am an EXPERT and I know EVERYTHING!!!"

That is more directed at dingram than Tad. IMO Tad is level headed about things having to do with sailing.. not so much politics <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I think...

You can take that statement and throw it out when Wouter is involved though.

I love the boat, but its not for everyone. If you want a ride, I'd be more than willing to give anybody a ride. Except Wouter. Not because he's not welcome, but because I'd probably try to drown him by the 18th time he told me that my trim was off.

But what if your trim really was off 18 times?

I don't see anything wrong with analyzing a photograph. Still photos are excellent teaching tools. The identity of the sailors, the ability of the sailors, and the context of the situation are not really pertinent in discussing the photo itself. There is no way to be judgmental about it. It just shows what it shows, as far as mast rotation and leech twist. No way to say whether this was good or bad in that particular situation, that particular second in time. The photo can still be analyzed, just on its own merits in a generic kind of way -- like a file photo that a magazine pulls out for an article to illustrate a certain type of trim.

What is bad is when people start criticizing the sailors based upon that photo.

Oh, it probably would be, but I'd be doing it just to piss him off <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
