I noticed a very small hole in my boat, what would you recommend that I fix this with? Gelcoat?

The first white layer (gelcoat?) is gone, I can see the foam inside. The hole is about 1 cm.

Read thru THIS post and see if some of your questions get answered.

And this one for a general discussion of fiberglass repair.

What do you mean by very small?
That is a relative term.
Where is the whole located, what caused it, is it just in the outer laminate or does it go right through would also be good things to know.
There are a number of people on this forum that could answer your question. However you would be far better off sending a private note to John Pierce.
As he built the boat I'm sure he will give you the right answer first go.

Regards,
Phill

Grind it out a little. Let it dry completely. Put tape around the hole leaving the hole exposed and maybe 3/8 inch surrounding it. For 1 cm I would use epoxy with some chopped glass in it with some structural filler. Then sand and re-gelcoat or use my version of gelcoat- 98 cent gloss white spray paint after you take off the tape to blend it. OR.. use marine-tex. You could use marine tex but 1 cm may be getting up there in size for it. easy to use, easy to sand. Hard to mix right in small amounts though.
btw.. didn't read the link given.. so I apologize if this is redundant.

These things are very person dependent. One guy i know who has built boats would recommend grinding out A LOT of the surrounding glass and foam then re-layering cloth, etc. I think that is excessive unless it is a high stress area.

Send John P a private message; he built the boat; he'll be able to advise based on the exact location.

It is possible to tint gelcoat, or any medium, to get a satisfactory match. Unfortunately, the smaller the quantity, the more difficult it becomes. I doubt if the the color standards, from one lot number to the next, are exact.

Pete,

I've been mixing some acrylic tint (I can't remember the color for the moment) with white gelcoat. I mix a small batch and dab some on the hull. If the color isn't right I wipe it off and add another drop of tint (do this before adding the hardener). Repeat until you get the desired color.

You can get pretty close.

It is also possible to "blend" the color. spray each coat over an increasingly large area until the color difference is minimized. Easier to say than do.

T: I haven't done any of this in over ten years. I'd appreciate knowing which specific materials you're using, if you have a chance.

thanks,

I'll look what tint I have when I'm over to the condo' next ... (I think it is Raw Ciena)... anyway our boats are the same shade (I think) and I'm getting ready to do some daggerboard repair ... so I'll mix up a little batch for you.
