I'm buying a nacra 5.0 and have lots of pics to show.
I've only had H16's and don't know much about Nacra 5.0's but I *think* everything is there.
The zip of all the pics is at http://www.lapiter.com/nacra/103_2834.zip
it's a ~20 meg file

please take a look at it and let me know what yall think about it, as well as any questions I could/should ask the seller. I've asked alot, I want to make sure I havent missed anything

I just want to make sure the boat is great condition and has no issues. Only known issue is some paint peeling off.
thanks

First of all just look at it, does it look like it has been treated well? Do you like how it looks? It is something you will have for a long time so be sure you like it!

I just looked a the pictures, it is a foam/fiberglass laminate so it could be delaminated, but I don't think Nacras have that problem very often. I would press on that area with the peeling paint and see if it is soft, that could have been caused by water leaking through the hull. If it is solid, no big deal about the paint but if it is soft, run away!
Ask him if it takes on any water? I would say up to a gallon in each hull is not that big of deal, more than that, something is wrong. It is pretty scratched up at the front, ask him what they are from? If he knows it is a good sign but if he has no clue he probabay didn;t care about the boat to much.

Check the rudders and make sure they they are not chipped and beaten up. Also check the rudder assembly, make sure that nothing is bent, I would have him put the rudders together. If you have time and the space, have him set the boat up, with two of you it would only take about 1 hour to set it up and take it down and then you could make sure that everything was there.

The sails look good but look for anything wrong with them, that can get expensive very fast!

That is about all I have to say, it looks pretty nice, I bet it is fast!

The boat looks to be solid. I don't think it would take much to sand and paint just below the stripe. You did not mention how much you are paying or the year of the boat, because price is always a factor.

Johnny:

That boat is in League City right. Off of Calder Road? You are on www.tcdyc.com right? I am Hobie17 there. Get Chris Green or Tommy Ganger to look at it for you. Or someone else on the site. Do a post and ask for help, they live in League City and really know about that stuff. My concern are the cracks, not so much the paint. Especially the ones by the rudder gudgeon's. Make sure there is not structural damage. You don't want to get on the water and have it come apart. We helped Kris get a real nice 5.2 from Austin. It sailed real good Sunday. I just don't want to see you buy a lemon.

Good Luck,

Doug

Over what period of time?? a gallon a minute is a lot

I am thinking a couple of hours, three hours and a gallon would not be to bad!

a gallon in 3 hrs in my book would not be acceptable. Find the leak!

that would be a good thread- what level of water intrusion people are tolerant of.

hari blower... theres a good idea. better than the vaccuum blaster. that is one my list of things to do next. our boat takes on alittle more than I would like... esp prior to the round the island race

I am not saying that I wouldn't fix it but that would probably not be a big deal if it took on that much.

the guy said it takes next to no water on.
And ya doug, it is that one.
I didn't think I'd buy it since i'd have to get rid of my H16 first, but a person came buy and bought my 16.
I would of asked chris to take a look at it (I goto the dike frequently, I'm the person that went by at WW last year when your boom broke if you remember me..) but the problem is I doubt they'd be able to get to it before 12
anyways I did alot of talking to the owner today and he seems like a nice guy, so I'll just take his word for it and see how things go.

its all relative to what you are comfy with. My boat takes on about 1.5 decent size sponge fulls over 2-3 hours. Probably not a big deal but since I always am looking for projects on the boat that will be the next one. The problem is the leak is always in the hardest place to fix- like the daggerboard wells. I honestly don't know where mine is leaking but I will check the board wells first then the transoms (I added some glass to reinforce and maybe I didn't seal them well enough) then the beam bolts on the main beam then the ports which I seem to always lose the little rubber orings for

also I forgot to say about the cracking. The guy said that the cracking is only in the gel coat. I've seen other boats like this so I think it'd be ok.

Also, the guy installed 3 inspection ports on each hull so you can get a good look inside. Anyone know if putting inspection ports in does any structural damage? (more likely to wear down the hulls or anything?)
thanks

I would be more interested as to why he put in the extras... for major repairs or did he just want to see? Depends on where they are in terms of structural stuff

the inspection ports are in the picture.
He said he just put them in so he can store things like water bottles there, and also so he can see the inside and see why the paint was peeling. He said there have never, to his knowledge, been any repairs to the hulls, just that one repainted part.

I agree.. and it doesn't look like the glass is satuarated there either. The cracks make me a little nervous but depending on the price it looks great

Johnny:

I would still get one of the guys to look at it. If the guy is as nice as you say, get him to bring it to the dike Sunday and we will chase someone down to look at it. Non regatta weekend, so all the hotshots should be there. Not saying it is a bad boat, just get a second opinion from some experts.

Yea WW was a bitch weekend, I broke the damm boom twice. Are coming this year? Racing this this year. Got it for $2700. 2002 Mystere 4.3 Nationals boat. Good deals are out there. Looks brand new.
