Johnny:

Give me a cell number. Friend and I want to talk to you about possibly building us a website. Me for pics, him for business.

I think Todd was out in his I17 as well.
Also, my brother took the boat to the dike that saturday, but didnt rig or sail it since no one else was, and high winds is definately not the time to try out a boat for the first time.

BTW can you please post the link to the high quality version of the pictures? I'd like to click on them and see more detail <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Actually it's Rick's three rules of beach cat major coast line distance racing.

1) Stay close to the beach
2) Stay close to the beach
3) Stay close to the beach

For safety, more wind or both?

I think its mostly because it's safer. Also, usually the waves get bigger if you go out farther, so you have less waves to deal with, as well as the fact that if you are far from shore and something breaks... lets just say it wouldn't be fun.

Wind.

If there is an advantage to be had by going 14 miles offshore for wind, you bet we're there. I've seen a few teams try to go for better breeze or a 4knot current in the Gulf Stream but I have never seen it pay off.
