If the flier features someone else's renderings, this is wrong and must be corrected. They don't need renderings, the boats are sailing and nice photos are available.

What I know for sure is that those guys are a lot more interested in starting/promoting the class locally than in manufacturing or selling boats. But in order to have a class, they need a local builder. Import duties are 85% of (price + freight). Who would sail those boats at twice their price?

They are a small group of multihull adicts (less than ten) and it wouldn't be a surprise if they are selling at cost, or very close to it. I guess ony the sailmaker/seller/A Catter/Tornado-olympic-crew-hopeful doing the advertising and sales will make a fee. Or maybe just make money from the sails.

About the design, I guess they included all the features they like from existing A Cats, hence the various "looks like" comments. It doesn't make sense to adopt a truly new design when starting a development class in a country. And for practical reasons, it is almost impossible that they could copy boats that did not participate in the last Worlds.

They already sold boats to the usual suspects, so every new sale means a new sailor to the class. Even at a comparably reasonable price, it remains an expensive boat for the locals, so sales will be slow. This is definitely not made for money. Only passion explains what they do.

All the best,

Luiz

Hello Sito

Thank you for your offer of a test sail, I would have gladly accepted were I able to be there. Unfortunately I cannot take part at the Europeans in Murcia, due to the arrival of a new family member (and potential crew in the not too distant future.)

Thanks again

Regards

Daniel

Too cool, looks like a fun project. Good luck! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

can you email to me clearer pictures of the hulls, lines and design? Are they exporting this boat or keeping it local? tsiders@hopkintoncc.com

Looks like it has more rocker than the A2/A3 and sharper bow, I cannot tell about the hull volume though.

Sorry mate, I posted all the photos and information I have. Even included some guesses... Write directly to Gual Naldi, who is selling, sailing and cutting sails for the boat in Rio.

And that's what I know - until I test it in Rio... .
More details with Gual Naldi at gual@br.northsails.com or gualnaldi@yahoo.com.br

PS: I'm not sure if he speaks english, so let me know if you need help comunicating.
