I picked the boat up from customs last Friday and worked Sat. and Sun. putting it together. The hulls and beam went together great. The tramp was also a perfect fit! This boat looks really awesome! Silver with black beams and tramp, the sails are a new grey color that looks fast:) This boat is going to fly! It weighs nothing compared to the Prindle. My dad and I carried the entire boat down a side walk and onto the beach with eas! The qualtiy of paint and carbon fiber is top noch. I will attach a photo. Maybe this weekend I will find the time to finish. Can't wait to get this thing out on the water.

Mark,

Sounds great.

But no photo?

Or are you waiting for the first sail?

Interested in taking a look.

I know that the voices in my head aint real,
but they have some pretty good ideas.
There is no such thing as a quick fix and I've never had free lunch!

Congratulations with your new boat ! [Re: MarkT] #10721

Congratulations with your new boat ! May she be all that you expected her to be. But looking at your first comments I'm sure that you're both on the right track in achieving that.

Just like Phill, I would love to see a few pictures of your boat perferable you on it. I would also like to ask at the same time wether we can use those pictures for the website.

When you get to sail it please tell us how it was.

Fair winds and happy sailing.

I emailed the folks at Stealth Marine about boat weight, crew weight, and cost--they responded right away:

"Thanks for your enquiry, I will answer your questions in order

1.) competitive crew weights, 275lbs to 340 lbs this is for two up sailing, as you are probably aware the boat can be sailed single handed weight range 155lbs to 200lbs,

2.) Fully rigged weight is around 240lbs

3.) We have no dealers anywhere you buy direct from us which keeps the cost down We have just delivered one boat to LA

4.) Cost for the full spec boat is around $10,900,(todays exchange rate) this includes, painted hulls, t-foil rudders, padded foil bags, carbon mast, boom, spin pole, tillers, tiller bar, tiller extension, pentex main and jib, spinnaker, snuffer, self tacking jib. This price is for everything the only options on the boat are metallic paint ($350) and to down grade in order

to save some money.

You can buy a dolly, $250 and a cover $150.

Hope this is of some interest to you.

Regards

John Pierce"

Previously I posted a question and comment about the cost of the Stealth 16. Now I see that the post has been removed. My post was not inflammatory, so why was it removed?

I simply stated that the price with freight, duties, etc to the US East coast would run me about $12,500 for the Stealth 16. I further stated that the cost seemed high when compared with some of the high performance 18 footers available. Is there a chance to get a discount if several customers put in a group order?

Are you sure you allowed the entire process to happen? Sometimes after a post people click on the back button and the post will not go into the sql data

I can assure you that no post has been delete by the class or Rick White. Rick is the only one who can and I nor anybody else of the class has ever requested him to do so. It would also go against the class policy of openess or my personal preference to do so; even if the post can be considered to be nasty.

I think that the case is that you posted your message before the one of barths of the new forum. I think we had to instances where the new forums lost all of the posts and I know of at least one time where we couldn't restore the files from backup. I assume that your post was lost in that.

With respect to costs of a Stealth F16 :

I can't not speak for Stealthmarine but the data I have points at the following situation :

A Stealth F16 with "the works" (snuffersystem, T-foil rudders, tapered carbon mast and selftacking jib) shipped one per time in a crate costs about the same as a Tiger or F18HT when fitted with comparable gear (snuffer ?). I think the last two are gouped in containers with 7 boats or more. When Stealth can do the same thing the boat would come out cheaper than quoted now.

The formula 16 class will help and work together with any builder to organize a group shipment of boats, masts or even individual parts like spinnakers.

I have personally established good contacts with a international shipping company that also ships the Nacra F18 masts to the USA.

The F16 class has established good contacts with the several boat builders and sailmakers in all three continents : USA EU and Australia. The class organisation is also ready to organize group deals.

When you want the class will help you put a group deal together regarding Stealth F16 designs. A package of two boats would already save an attractive amount of money.

We will do the same thing for Taipan 4.9's or any other brand.

With respect to the price of a Stealth F16 I can only underline that in Europe a Hobie 16 costs 10.000 USD too. So for 900 USD more you have a boat which a good deal lighter, has all the new go fast stuff (snuffer, carbon mast) and will be the downright fastest 16 footer around and beat a good deal of the 18 footers and some of the 20 footers. And look better too.

I think that these are the prices that must be payed for boats these days. Even my own homebuild boat will set me back over USD 10.000 USD (inc shipping parts from autralia.

Please remember that the USD dropped considerable in value in the last few months. About 10 to 15 %.
