OK here is what you say and do when they meet you at Tybee, your an ok guy Maugan and I know if the angry Dutch people don't win this leg.I shudder to think what can happen. You know the whole country knows Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Get a tray with couple of cups of (Douwe Egberts)coffie and a couple of Lekker Bekjes (fried breaded codfish wrapped in newspaper), use a copy of Het Telegraph as a nice touch.Greet them by saying "Ik moet jullie lekker stuk vrouwen nu heb". This should take the edge off and make for a lifetime friendship....Maybe next year you can charter out to the Australian national Tornado champions...............It's been fun to watch <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

BobG,

I was just going to offer them alcoholic beverages.

I'm told thats a pretty safe way of atoning.

Also, Trey's girlfriend Jen is native Dutch, so she can translate for me :P

Just heard from the boys.

Velocity is three miles out. They can't see blinky.

Visibility has improved apparently but not by much.

We could see blinky just fine almost 4 miles out. Tell the boys to look to their right next time and wait for the boat to be on top of a big roller. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

When Alan called me saying they were three miles out and couldn't see blinky, it was still light out barely.

Maug/Tad,

Personally, I would never have loaned my boat out for an event like that. So, my hat is off to you right from the get go. That race is an extreme test of both man and machine. I think it was an extreme sport before the term was even coined. Even brand new boats break under those conditions. As someone else opinioned, the lead team's trials and tribulations get a lot more "press". I am sure some of the other teams have had just as many problems, if not more. It just doesn't get reported.
I cannot imagine that anyone is thinking you sent out a boat that was anything but as well prepared as you knew how to make it, and as I said before, I can't believe you let your boat out for that kind of abuse. <Grin>

To tell you the truth, I don't know. I quite honestly getting a little tired of the focus on broken Ooohlaalaa parts. I don't mind if they break it and replace it, I just am feeling like people are thinking that I'm a **** that gave Mischa a crummy boat. The first two days I felt like a giant douche when basically the story was "ohh look how much water is in the hulls! And they STILL won!"

I don't want to go over the things I did to prepare the boat, but suffice to say, I never had water intrusion problems, the tiller arm crack was something that I could have never known about or else it would have been replaced, and I don't know what the deal is with the dagger. Neither of them showed ANY sign of cracks of any type when I sent the boat down. I'm not altogether happy with the amount of breakages to be honest, but as long as the boat makes and Mischa doesn't kill me tomorrow when I meet him, I'll be able to live with myself.

Do the Tybee rules allow you to speak or transmit data to the teams while sailing?

Not that a cell tower can get them 5 miles out, but with today's PDA capabilities, I guess you could send weather, tactical, and other information to the teams out there...

Their boat is going to be in MUCH better condition after the race than when they loaned it. Mischa tore it apart and reconstructed it. Even after all the work they did, the boat took on significant amounts of water the first day. They did even more work on it and now have most of the leaks corrected. It all depends on who you loan your boat to!
