Hey guys,
I took my new 5.0 out for the first time this past weekend, and couldn't exactly find out how to have a pulley system for both the down haul and the jib.
I've attached some pictures, if someone can please explain to me in detail how to do it, that'd be great.

Also, if you could tell me some ways to improve things, as well as the best way to deal with the remains of the main halyard and also any things I could add, that'd be great.

I'm open to any and ALL suggestions!
Pictures are up at http://www.lapiter.com/nacraissues/
I just took them and it was getting dark.

Feras:

It looks like it is somewhat like my 4.3. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> We will try to figure it out Sunday. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> You need to get rid on the dogbones for the trap system. They will knock your teeth out. Get some of the one that look like a circle with line thru the middle. That is what we all use.

You are missing a few blocks for your jib halyard and down haul, and a few stoppers for the traps, but with a few minutes and a couple of blocks you can straighten that out.

Jib first, there should be a block with beckett just like on that one trap wire, tied to the end of the jib halyard, and you run the line off the beckett through the block on the mast, then back up through the block on the halyard, then to that cleat you have the black line set in.

Downhaul, you should have a small double block which you can attach to your main at the tack, with a beckett, and you run the line from the beckett down to that little block on the mast, up through one side of the double on the tack, down through the block on the other side of the mast, up through the other side of the double, then down to that cleat on the mast.

Traps, first off, get the bungie cord off the metal ring, tie a small loop in the end of each red trap line, and clip the bungie cord to that loop, adjust lenght of tail to keep them snug when nobody is using them. You need another stopper on that one that doesn't have one.

OR...Take your boat to a regatta, buy a case of beer on the way, find someone with lots of spare parts, trade him the beer for the parts and have him rig it for you, then sail it! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Timbo thanks for the tips.
I really like the last one <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Anyways, what you said all sounds good, except my mast only has 2 blocks on it, and from what you said I need 2 for the downhaul and 1 for the jib.
I also gota find this double block to put on the downhaul, hopefully it's in the tool box I got with the boat... I'll check tomorrow.

Also, ya the trapeze's arnt set right, I just did that temporarily since I don't know how to do it correctly, but now I tihnk I have an idea how it's done.

Not really, plenty of people use the dogbones, some of use even passionate dislike the ones "that look like a circle with line thru the middle"

It all comes down in how how you rig c.q. setup the system.

I absolutely HATE the ones that 'look like a circle with a line through'.

They're standard on the Hobie and they are one of my pet moans. I use the Ronstan dogbones 'cos they're brilliant and I've had them (or very similar) on every boat I've had in the last 35 odd years.

I love the J & H handles. Easy to hook up too. Once you have chipped your tooth on a metal dogbones popping back at you, you will see why.

J&H handles have a life span. they will eventually corrode and break. If something has the potential to break - don't use it. Dogbones every time for me.

I MUCH prefer the elongated dogbones you have in your photos, especially solo. Tie it on in the middle. Use the small ring trapping midships upwind and the long ring to trap 4 inches lower for stern work off the wind. No clamcleat adjuster necessary. The "Can't Miss" wire rings are unnecessary fluff. Why have two handles? The Tornado guys I’ve see use a single ring about 2 inches in diameter. Very simple and all you really need.

You DO need to rework your bungie setup. You want the bungie to pull the ring UP to the trap wire. You pull the ring DOWN to hook up. Sitting astern of the trap, when you unhook it flies up and forward, whacking the crew in the face and reminding them who's captain. If you sail solo, getting whacked yourself is pretty rare. If you sail with crew they will get whacked unless you’re real careful, a time wasting concern. On a 5.0 crew is just dead weight and slows you down. Whack ‘em a few times and you’ll always sail solo. Much faster.
