after dragging her up and down the beach way too much, she started leaking. i asked the hobie dealer here in charleston what to do. he says- with her up side down, make a dam like device with duct tape on both sides of the hull. then, fill this dam up with resin. what do ya'll think about this. i dont race or expect to be class legal. i just want to float.

it would be a great idea to lay in a layer or two of glass while you are at it (the resin won't hold up long without it and will likely start to chip off). Murrays sells a West System cat keel kit for this very purpose...see http://www.murrays.com/archive/14-15.pdf

completely clean the bottoms with degreaser and Acetone sand with 80 grit >> 2 layers of mat >> 1 layer of fabric >> gelcoat >> sand to 600 grit (1200 if you like it to shine) (Or Someone posted a way to do it with a sprayer that looked worth a try. ) and get boat wheels. if it is thin enough to leak then it needs to be reinforced.

No worries on being class legal. You're making a boat repair after all!

Right, no concern if the integrity of the original hull shape is maintained after the bottom job. However, hull templates are available for several Hobies to keep the hulls class legal after repairs.
