The 2007 A-Class North American Championship was held last week at West River Sailing Club in Galesville, MD. The club put on a fantastic event that was attended by 30 A-Class competitors. This event served as a qualifier for mid-Atlantic and northeast A-class districts in preparation for the 2007 A-Class World Championship. The winner of the event also qualified for a slot in the world championship.
Lars Guck continued his domination winning all eleven races sailed over three days. Day one had east-northeasterly winds at 8-12 knots. Day two was grey and cool with 12-15 knots northeasterly winds. Day three had sunny skies with 12-18 knot winds. Phil Kinder finished second in the event and since Lars has already qualified for the world championship, Phil got the slot given to the winner. Charlie Ogeltree rounded out the top three.
For the gear freaks, Lars won sailing a Nacra A3 with a Fiberfoam mast and Glaser sail. Phil Kinder sailed a Geltek Flyer II with Fiberfoam mast and Ashby sail. Charlie Ogeltree sailed a Vectorworks Bim XJ with a Riba mast and Ullman (Italy) sail.
