Does anyone know were I can get the aluminum bar for beach wheels? I have made my own but am having trouble finding the aluminum tube that goes between the wheels. Also I have a nacra 5.2, does anyone know the length that I need. I have hull cradles for the bar.

Thanks airborne

I found a supplier in the phone book when I started looking. It was really cheap to buy my own axle. As for length, I'd just put the cradles under the hull and measure the distance from outside-to-outside.

Good luck! Let us know how it works out! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

If you made your own, you were probably on a budget, and a long aluminum tube and shipping will blow it. If you fresh water sail (Dallas) go to an electrical supply place and buy galvanized steel conduit. It is thin wall (light and strong enough) and will hold up for a long time.

I just did an axel replacement for the 1"OD tube for the smaller wheels. Original wall thickness was 1/4", and I found it at ...

http://www.metalsdepot.com/products/alum2.phtml?page=rndtube&LimAcc=%20&aident=

I tried using the 1/8" wall pipe, but it wasn't heavy enough for it. I got an 8' section for about 60 bucks with shipping. UPS maxies out at 10' for shipping. If I had ordered a 12 foot section it would have been about $170.00

phone book. Aluminium supplier. take wheels there and buy right tube cut by them to right length. Open front door of car wide, push down front seat and push tube back into rear window shelf drop front end into front passenger foot well and drive home. Should cost about $30 total.

Liberate a stop sign knocked over by some drunk. Actually cities have piles of used "street furniture" like this, if you have a buddy who works for the city....
Recycling places get $2 per pound for Aluminum: 1/4 inch is best. I still have several tubes obtained from the University many years ago.
