Anyone know the differences in tuning with aluminum verses carbon mast on the Nacra 17? Specifically, how much diamond wire tension, spreader rake etc. I assume all the tuning guides I've seen are for carbon mast.
Thanks

Contact me using my email. I don't want the F16 rookies polluting this thread.

"The election is over, the talking is done, Your party lost, my party won. So let us be friends, let arguments pass, I’ll hug my elephant, you kiss you’re a $$.” Liberalism = A brain eating amoeba & a failed political ideology of the 20th century!
This in response to all the F16 sailors: Bob Curry is absolutely right. You F16 guys are killing our open forum. Nobody can talk about any other kind of boat that they are interested in without one of you F16 guys butting in and taking over the thread. We gave you guys your own forum. Why aren't you happy with that? If you want to have a thread on the open forum that deals with the F16, fine. But why take over threads dealing with other types of cats? At the least it is very annoying and rude; and at the most it is destructive for the forum in general, because people are going to go elsewhere to talk about their boats.
Bob Curry is one of the most knowledgeable sailors available to us. I don't know why people want to diss him and chase him away. If you would let him talk, you could learn a great deal, even if he is talking about a different type of boat.
The people on the forum already chased away Bill Roberts, who offered a lot of great technical engineering information.
Bob Curry is a bona fide expert and one of the best sailors in the world. It would behoove y'all to shut up and listen to what he has to say. If it were me, I would be BEGGING him for tips. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Hey Mary, to all. This a is an open forum. I started reading F16 but I find it better to use this open forum to get everybody's ideas. While weight of boats etc etc etc are valid threads, that is all they are, threads. So, if the people who run this site are being clear that partisan is getting boring why not knock any argument on the head now by agreeing that when on a thread, stay on the thread. So this is about masts...not boats...I will start ANOTHER thread now for following the argument.
Bob, I would ask that you reconsidder sharing your experience with all as I am very interested in what you have to say and dealing with only one person cheats others.
To all F16 sailors. Listen to what Mary has said and let it go so we can get on with sailing related topics. IF you are an F16 sailor who does not get into it with others..thanks but you don't have to tell us now.
IF the people who need to throw it at each other just create specific threads for that we can all get our two pennith in.
Remember everybody, we are all just trying to sail fast.
He started with the "Fad" post, and continues now.
Virtually all cat related info is common to all posts. If someone was to ask me about my experiences of the Inter 17 or F16, would I want to take it off line ? Nope. But I've only 9 months sailing the F16, 6 years experience of sailing the Inter 17, 12 years sailing Hurricanes and 10 years sailing Dart 18's, also sailed Spitfires, Dart 15's Stampedes, Tornado's so I know naff all about sailing.
Personally I think that "taking it off-line" is suspicious.
That way one can tell another person a load of nonsense without having the peer review that keeps us all on the straight and narrow.
Or at least it doesn't allow others to provide a counterview, if that is applicable.
Interestingly enough, Scooby Simon actually sailed with an alu masted Inter-17 for 6 years; he now has another type of singlehander cat with a carbon mast. So I think his experience may actually be quite valuable in this particular thread.
This despite the fact that Bob Curry may feel that Simon has switched to the dark side and therefor has lost all rights to participate in this thread (discussion).

Wouter, with all of the good will in the World..suspicious??!!..we are sailing beach cats for gods sake....not operating covertly inside enemy lines....so why not address what this man has asked about masts?
I would actually agree that some F16 sailors are, maybe, a little too "vocal" on the forum. HOWEVER, from what you say Mary should we bow down to the masters and chant "we're not worthy, we're not worthy????" I would prefer this to be a give a take forum. Or shall we start putting our resumes at the bottom of each post to qualify us as a newbie or "master" sailor?? Also, (and I said I agree, partially, with your main point) [color:"red"] WHO BROUGHT THE F16 INTO THIS THREAD!!! WHO BAITED WHO???? [/color] It wasn't scooby, wasn't wouter, wasn't robi, wasn't tiki. So who is hijacking what? So if you are going to get on our case for "hijacking threads" at least chose a thread in which it was done. And, do tell why Roberts doesn't come here anymore... is that the F16 sailor's fault also?
A little more backround. I put the boat pointy side down with lake levels low and stuck the mast in the mud, 2-3 foot rollers augered it in and it snapped the carbon mast (see pic) Performance catamarans is in the process of moving moulds and manufacturing from New Zealand to South Africa and couldn't get me another carbon mast until mid to late August. Price also up to $4200.00 cost. Decided to go with the shorter aluminum and new mainsail just to get me up and running. May switch back to the carbon at some point but since I don't race it one-design figured I'd get some first hand experience in the difference in rigs. There are those who say the carbon mast could be fixed but I don't know of anyone in this area and I'd hate to chance another catastrophic failure(mainsail & rigging all toast in the incident also)on a mast not properly repaired.

Are those fad boats sailed anywhere else other than in MI?

Hey Ted, I was trying to keep my mouth shut, being seeing how you have the nerve to drag my name into this issue.
See the issue at hand, is you DO NOT KNOW ME. I got a chance to meet Bob Curry face to face and I learned he has the same exact sarcastic humor that I love, him and Brett Moss. You have no idea, how much I picked Bob's brain. In a matter of around maybe an hour or two chatting with him I learned heeps of information. I also have the priviledge to have Brett Moss a phone call away. TWO VERY GOOD uni-rigged sailors. Both these sailors have a sarcastic humor and obviously do not post very often but read the forums.
Ive been on forums since early 2000's, managed, installed and participating in all kinds of forums, so that would make me a bit more vocal and more active. But honestly with all these STUCK UP attitudes(plural form) around these forums I have chosen to just sit back and read and not participate, because of folks like yourself
I posted what I posted in reply to what Bob Curry posted in Nov, 2006. Maybe you missed it. MY reply was to BOB, not to YOU or anyone else. If anyone else took it personal, too bad. I wont apologize, because people need to learn to relax and take things posted on the retardnet a bit less personal.
