Hello everyone

My family and I went to the Dominican in January, and as part of the deal, I got to use a sailboat for an hour a day. Having only ever sailed a Sunfish, and only about 5 times over 10 years, I grabbed one and headed out. Well, the waves were about 4 ft and strong winds, I was out for about 5 min's before I was quite scared. I sailed back to the beach and a wave was sitting there.

I had never sailed cat before and it was large and rather intimidating. I asked the rental guy amd he told me if I could sail a Sunfish, I wold have no problems with the Wave. I took it out and loved it. Every day thereafter, I took my family out and we had a blast, it was the highlight of my Vacation.

Upon my return to Toronto, I went to the boat show, and bought myself a Wave.

What I would like to know is, does anyone know of a Wave club or association in Ontario? I would love to race against other boats.

Anyway, I have rambled enough. My next thing will be to get the Hooter kit from Rick. Nice to be apart of this community.

Vincent

Hey Vincent,
Right! Got your email earlier and replied to you.
I don't know of much in Ontario, except right across the pond from Ontario in Lake Erie is Put-in-Bay.
We now have over 10 boats in our fleet and race twice a week on Thursday afternoons and Saturday late mornings.
Last year we got in 60 race in our series races alone.

This year our club will be hosting the Wave North American Championship right here on the island. Not a far trip for you, no matter what part of Ontario you are in.
Come join the fun.

Wave National Championship Series and Rankings Underway

At the Nationals in 2001 the Wave Class approved a move to set up a schedule of regattas to make up a National Championship Series and National Ranking System. Also, at each Nationals we will have an award for "Skipper of the Year for Open, Women, Youth & Masters."

The Rules
*Points are accumulated with high-point scoring system. In any given regatta, your score would be based on the number of boats you beat, plus one. For example, if you attended a regatta with 22 boats and you won, your score for that regatta would be 22.
* The Nationals and North Americans will count as two separate races. Thus if you were 30th and there were 70 boats, you would accumulate two races at once and your score for each regatta would be 40.
* Your score will be based on your best 5 regattas for the year.
* You must attend at least two events
* If you do not attend five regattas, then you will receive a "0" for the regattas that you did not make. For example, if you made only 4 regattas, your fifth regatta will be scored a zero (the number of boats you beat.
* Scoring of boats will be based on boats registered.

I just purchased a Wave this week, and I live east of Picton on Adolphus Reach. The sailing & wind are fantastic. If you want to travel a couple of hours, you are welcome to launch here and we could compete. There is an active catamaran club on West Lake in Prince Edward County, but they seem to be sailing 18'+ boats. I'll look at the Hooter system next year and maybe look them up.

Keep me posted! I am in Cornwall and am looking for a Wave. Not sure whether I will go for the Hobie 16 yet though or not. We are close enough and it is good to have neighbors with the same interests!

Hobie bound!
