Here I give you the very preliminary results at the finish still lots of boats have got to finish and surely some of the slower boats will finish very high on the corrected time listing.

On corrected time it is all F18's as expected.

On elapsed time these are the boat types; as far as I can tell :

Some of these custom boats are getting ridiculous. Hell the Texel rating system already names no less then 13 different versions of the Eagle 20. Next to the M20 we now have the M20 GTI. Pretty much they keep stacking up sailarea a few examples, I start with the inter-20 OD (US rig) as a comparison (also know as nacra 20 large):

Formula 18 mainsail = 17 sq. mtr. jib = 4.15 sq. mtr. spi = 21 sq. mtr.
Inter 20 OD (US size rig) mainsail = 19.18 sq. mtr. jib = 4.85 sq. mtr. spi = 25 sq. mtr.

M20 mainsail = 20.71 sq. mtr jib = no jib, spi = 25 sq. mtr. or so
M20 GTI mainsail = 20.71 sq. mtr. jib = 4.21 sq. mtr. , spi = 25 sq. mtr. or so if not larger

Eagle 20 XXL mainsail = 21.50 sq. mtr, jib = 5.24 sq. mtr, spi = 25 sq. mtr or larger
Eagle 20 Massive (AKA Eagle 20 strbroek large 886) mainsail = 22.94 sq. mtr. , jib = 5.96 sq. mtr. spi = 25 sq. mtr. or even larger

These eagle 20 boats (ready to sail weight around 160 kg) are very close to 30 sq. mtr. upwind sailarea. That is almost 50 % more then the F18's ! And the M20's are 60 kg lighter then the F18's. Despite all that the F18's are still very close after three and halve hours of racing in light wind conditions.

On handicap these line-honours boats are getting killed, only the normal M20's stay relatively close to the top places. Goran Mastrom and J.L. Flier being 11th and 13th on handicap and the volvo extreme 20 at 15th spot. The Eagles drop down to places between 23th and 32nd.

Stacking up more sailarea only goes so far guys, even in light to modest winds.

Well, that's it for me !

Who is the best keyboard sailor of them all ?

That's right !

I still have to do about 6 hours of fuzzy logic controller design so I'm off.

I hope you all enjoyed this coverage of the Round Texel 2007.

I wish I had the results showing the teams Casey/Helden and Brow/Lebreton but I haven't.

We'll just have to wait for the full listings to be released later.

Good luck and bye bye.

Thanks for the coverage Wouter, and BTW, while you were busy doing that, the Swiss won the first race of the America's Cup. TNZ won the start but the Swiss got to the first (left side) shift first, and took the lead, never looked back. The Swiss helmsman was Ed Baird, from St. Petersburg, Florida!

Was a strange weather pattern yesterday. I checked with a kite surfer yesterday late afternoon. It was on and off at zandvoort (80 km from Texel) so I feel that may initial guess at the Texel conditions may well be off. Anyway the graphs shown are correct but for locations about 80 km off Texel and it is well possible that that allows a different wind and winddirection at Texel.

We'll just have to wait for the reports and the sailors to say what the conditions really were. But on thing is certain. the conditions were significantly lighter then average Round Texel conditions. That much can be seen from the video and the racing time.

"The jubilee edition was sailed in favourable conditions with a south-westerly force three and a calm sea."

Force 3 winds are between 6.6 and 10.5 knots.

South-westerly winds mean that the wind was more or less blowing along the major axis of the island resulting in large legs of upwind and downwind sailing and relatively small reaching legs.

My initial estimate wasn't too far off afterall

John Casey / Christa van Helden : Infusion F18 placed 38th / 28th (elapsed / corrected)

They were finished at 03:49:29 (corrected : 3:47:13) and were 19:03 slower then the lead F18 by Bundock/Ashby (also corrected time winners). The time distance to the line honours winners (M20 GTI)is 32:56

Trey Brown / Hugo LeBreton : Inter-20 OD (large sails) placed 57th / 140th (elapsed / corrected)

They finished at 03:55:16 (corrected : 04:07:39); being 39:24 from winning the race on handicap and
51:04 from winning line-honours.

They were the 5th Inter-20 OD (US sail plan) out of 19 such boats. There were also some 35 Formula 20 boats at this event of which 2 finished ahead of Brown/LeBreton.

Interesting to note is that the 16 ft Spitfire sailed by Sproat/Burke was 01:05 behind Brown/LeBreton at the finish line (62nd on elapsed).

Must have been fun racing a 16 foot spinnaker boat for 4 hours while sailing an Inter-20 with US sail plan yourself, in 7-10 knots of wind.

Again it is interesting to note that this Spitfire crew finished 29th on corrected time (29th on corrected) and only 3 seconds behind team Casey/van Helden.

Sorry I just couldn't resist !

Wouter

(P.S. Blades were a little further down the listing so ... BTW, Sproat/Burke are very good sailors indeed)

Casey and van Helden pop up about 20 seconds into the morning overview video. JC made a fatal mistake - wore the wrong hat! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
