After 4 races, Carolijn is leading the best of the best in the Tornado class. You go, girl!

They have worked hard without much success at the top level yet, it would be incredibly fun if a mixed team won a medal again! I believe the last time a mixed Tornado couple went to the olympics was in Sydney 2000. More girls in the Tornado class is a good thing!

I love to see Carolijn doing so well. She is a very good competitor.

Later,
Dan

I thought Johny Lovell was -retired- from the Tornado? Did he change his mind? I thought that's why US Sailing decided not to support that class for 2012? Glad to see he's still in the hunt.

Strange to see that splitting up in non-sailing life pays off.....

Are you saying that Carlijn and Sebbe are no longer a man and wife couple ?

Surely this is not the case ?

Timbo,

I think Charlie and John are going for the 2008 games in China, but nothing have been said about the 2012 games. Most teams dont look further than the upcoming games unless they are very young or without much chance of securing a berth in the 2008 games. Motivation and the mental game is a big part of it.
We dont know if the Tornado still is olympic gear in 2012..

USA in 12, 37 and 44th position out of 49 boats at worlds with nation quotas. Doesn't look too shady for USA considering the danes with just this season on the boat is in 22nd (they have a lot of 49er experience tough). You just need to find the money to keep more teams sailing in the big events.

Yeah, I believe Johnnie and Charlie are both still in it for 2008...I understand there has been some indication that that might be the last Olympics for them for a while...but that might just be rumor.

The damn crews trim all three sails and don't get no respect.

I was having a look at the gallery of the ISAF Worlds, "challenging" conditions would be an understatement.

Although you can't see it in the photo that I linked to, there's a big McDonald's "M" in Carolijn's sail (you can see it in the 5th photo that Tony posted).

So it's the tag line of her sponsor, not the name of the boat. Like saying that "The King of Beers" is the name of Dale Jr's car.

I was listening to the news and heard that due to hard winds the Tornado medal races have been canceled.
This makes the results Boomer has posted final.
Well done to Carolijn and Mitch for taking home the medals.

How scary does that jib luff look. I assume they are just recovering from stuffing the bows in and so the mast has bent forward.
