Dear NAF18 sailors

We are working with F18 sailors in Chile, Argentina, Mexico and others "lobbying" local sailing federations to get the F18 to replace Hobie 16 as Panamerican Games catamaran class.

I've send a email to NAF18 president without response about this proposal.
Could someone related to the NAF18 please get us some feedback in NAF18 about this project?

Regards,
Martin.

Interesting idea. I think the class has more than enough support and international fleets. Would they not want a one design/one manufacturer solution? If they did and they picked one boat then it would leave the other manufacturers at a disadvantage. What do you think?

That`s right. The support is there.
Hobie 16 has done his job.

A performance Cat is the way to go.
The ideal class would be Tornado, but we all know T`s higher costs, that would make even less countries to participate.

F18 is a preparatory class for Olympic Tornado class and its costs are way lower than a Marstrom.

Yes, already think they would prefer to choose one, but that also will promote F18s.
Ideal scenario is to go for the Formula, F18 and Americas Cup has proved that 'rule box' works.

If they prefer to choose one brand, lets assume Tiger, that willl also promote F18s.
You don`t need a full fleet of Tigers in each country to train for next Panamericans 2011 for example.

I wrote to Tracie Van Houten copying Olivier Bovyn.

The idea is to present this proposal to local sailing federations, as they are the responsibles to make a formal presentation to Panamerican Sailing Federation.

One or more countries presents the project, and then is reviewed by the members and technical commitee.

Basically they are deciding next classes this 25th in Rio:

Pan American Sailing Federation - General Assembly Announcement:

The meeting will be held on July 25th at the Clube do Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at 1000 hours and is expected to last approximately two hours. Important subjects to be covered during the meeting are the classes of boats for the next Pan Am Games in Guadalajara...

So Martin:

Am I off the hook for taking action? I was trying to figure out who I would talk to at, I guess, US Sailing.

If you sent it to Tracie, who was chairman before I, then it went to very capable hands.

Later,
Dan

Tracie did not answer or didn“t received email.

You can take action talking to US Sailing, if you have good response they can propose F18 on next meeting at Panams in Rio this July 25th.

As I know last US Tornado Championship was attended by 6? boats. I'm guessing F18 North Americans will surpase that number.

One of the way to go for the Panam Federation is choosing classes that best represents what is being sailed across American countries and also provide a base for Olympics, clearly F18s are the best multihull choice.

The other position is to go with same classes as Olympic ones... but we all now the number of countries in this continent that can present a competitive T team beyond US, ARG and PUR, are quite little.

Cheers

I've contacted direclty Pasaf Secretary General Rick Jeffries-

We can still make an official request for F18 going Panam class.

The formal request should be addressed to him directly.
The ideal is that US Sailing sends the proposal (Of course if they agreed to) in your behalf and NAF18.

Pasaf Secretary General mail address is: Jeffries, Rich: RJeffries at ges dot com

I'm preparing our request with a new contact in our Sailing Fed.

We have 4 years to 2011, we can take our chance.
