Best spinnaker halyard line material?

I know you have sold Altered but I was looking at photos of your set out. Specifically the main ending on tramp and tidy spinny cleat as a result.
Also it seems you can naturally lean back on the trap and triangualate your stablity from there.
my question is did you have a sissy line to stop you going forward in a nose dive?
I have always liked the centre tramp main but it is not popular and I suppose you have some thing to hold onto to stop you going forward??

no I never had a sissy line. Don't know if I would have had a spare hand to hook it up <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />.

Personaly for one up sailing I love the centre tramp sheeting, helps to keep everything at arms length and in front of you, so you never need to look back.

As for it not being popular many A's and F18's I see around use it, including Glen and Greg. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I think the problem with centre sheeting on F16s is that there isn't really enough tramp space when sailing 2-up - no space for the crew to get across the boat.

Not an issue if your boat is 1-up only.

Where are the pics of the sheeting? Was this mid boom sheeting?

Hi Paul,

are you talking about this from experience 2 up with a self tacking jib and a high boom? From what I have been told it is surprising how much space there is on a 2 up F16 tramp, with the self tacker and high boom which the newer big heads allow. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Also I would be surprised if the beam to beam distance on say a F18 was actualy much larger than a F16, it is amazing how many cats have beams about the same distance apart. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

I notice your boom is carbon. Would the ali boom need to be a bigger diameter to deal with the added work load?

Realy a matter of stiffness, my first carbon boom was to flexible just like Aluminium tube they vary in the composition, so yes you do want a fairly stiff boom but some alum tube I have seen could do it. The big trick is having plenty of angle forward to the pulley on tramp which takes some of the bending load of the boom. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
