We had 2 C class cats show up at our latest regatta in Toronto. Patient Lady 4 and the new boat from the Toronto team. The new boat has the straight white daggers.

How do they trailer a sail like that? May seem like a dumb question?

In a big box I assume - A la hang glider trailers.

Uhmm... Hanggliders break down into a bag not much longer than a regular sailbag. Many of them now even have quick release leading edges that cut the folded length in half. Just got back from a flying competition, can you tell? We now return to your regularly scheduled sailing chat....

Care to develop my english? I haven't got a clue what you are talking about, but it sounds like I would like to.

Dave, to get back on topic. How did the C-class cats do compared to modern spi cats like F-18s etc?

I'm saying I assume that the C class chaps move their wing sails around in similar boxed trailers as the owners of gliders.

Right, I got thrown off by the remark Warbird made. Inflatable C-class wings.. context.. context.. *slapshead*

I think Cogito, wing an all, lives in a box trailer.

context...how do you move a big static wing around/
Recently blow up water dams have been created...the deflate and fold away. The tech is based on an internal structure....a blow up, deflatable static wing would make it easy to move....context...half joking /half serious.

The man means a glider...not a hang glider.

Cogito lives in a Shipping container.

Hi Rolf,
Well I think it is fair to say that they blew us all away. Downwind was interesting. They sail much higher and hotter.
For more pics of both boats you can go to

It would have been surprising if they did not blow you away <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
However, it would be very interesting to hear more about how these extreme boats compare to regular beachcats. Pointing angle, speed, acceleration, handling etc.

So they sailed much higher downwind.. that is interesting! I tought they would be able to carry the apparant wind so far forward that they had similar angles. That means they must have far, far, less drag (aero and hydro probably) and go much faster than regular beachcats.

Looking at the pictures:

What kind of Dart is this. With spi??

How did these guys do speed wise compared to the cats: <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That is a Dart 18 with a non standard Jib and a kite of some sort. Also a few other non standard bits on it.

This is an image of my freinds 75 foot cat last week.
Since then we have had a once in 150 year storm.
"after" photo to follow and you will see one way to "store" a wing.

I have found that a 49er will sail deeper at about the same speed as an F18 downwind, but appears to stand still upwind! so an F18 will beat it on a windward leeward, but not by much!

Really, must be a very very good 49er, I'd recon that a 49er was much fater than an Inter 17 (EU spec) down wind in the light stuff, comparable at about F3 and then the Inter 17 would just run away very quickly in anything more. In F5 I would be lapping the 49ers at Grafham as I started my 4th lap and they were on their 3rd.

here is the second shot of the wing in storage. Really sad and it took some time for us to clean it all up.
