Is there an efficient way to remove non skid paint? And how should I handle compression dents?

This is an ARC21, it is finished with auto paint, no gelcoat. I am prepping to recover.

I am curious about how to get rid of compression dents- the HT I used to own had a bunch and always wondered how you could get them out. I heard the only real option is to fair it with filler then re-gelcoat.
For non skid paint... sandpaper?

For dents use a light weight filler and spot paint. Automotive paints have "blending solvents" that can be used to hide the repaired edges. Sometimes it takes a fine touch.

If there are a lot of spots, repaint the whole thing. It will be easier and give a better result in the end.

For gel coat, getting an exact color match can be a problem. It relies on the skill of the individual. Unless the manufacturer just happens to have some of the same batch that was used on the boat in question, it is pretty much hit or miss.

I think I read somewhere that Marstrøm had a different take on how to fix dents on the boats he refurbished. He drilled a small hole, used a hook to pull the dent out and then filled the cavity behind the skin with thickened epoxy. I can't verify this, but it's what I remember. Myself I have always sanded down to the glass, filled, sanded and painted.
