Anybody know this was still around? Apparently it's doing the Transpac, but recently had a few board issues.
From SA:
"America does a great job of branding California's golden sunsets, beach babes and surfing dudes. Since hearing 'Californication,' 'Everybody goes surfing, surfing USA,' and 'I left my heart in San Francisco' Cali' has been calling. So I was delighted to be rolling in to Long Beach Hollywood-style aboard the 60ft trimaran from the Kevin Kostner movie special, 'Waterworld,' -at least that was the plan!
I'm at the helm, we're ripping 15-19 knots of boat speed on a close reach and we're going to rock right past Pyewacket…nice. Nice, that is until we were about parallel and the main hull centre emits a crunch. You know the sound- that ripping branch tearing noise, unique to carbon that makes your skin crawl. I ease off the pace to a gentle 13 knots, as an inspection goes on down below. The crew emerge with a shrug. There is nothing to see and so we sail on tentatively, but the motion of the boat has changed. It's lumpy. Then comes that sound again, this time elongated and more wretched and then that's it. Up floats the dagger board. We are in sight of the breakwater of Long Beach. We are two days from the Sunday start of the Transpac.
Sails down, Nick Leggatt plops in the water in his trunks to throw a line round the bent stick and this is how we arrive, with a halyard to a line through the tramps holding up the board. Not quite that Hollywood-style entrance I had in mind. Fortunately Pete Melvin [of Morelli and Melvin] and his eager team of yacht designers come out to meet and greet; Fortunately the board had had 2 feet recently added. So with 3 three feet now lopped off the top we're almost back to square one. The repair is in hand.
In our lineup, flying in rock-star-stylie is our chief navigator, Larry Rosenfeld, one shower from beating up to Canada in the Marblehead to Halifax; Tim McKegney ex-lots of multihull sailing and a past core player on the 60ft tri, Primagaz; Nick Leggatt [a globe trotter, who's done a few laps on Maxi Multis]; Mr Enloe, Sir [the owner]; Chris Morgan, THE boat fixer who has already earned his lunch and of course yours truly.
Down at the dock, we're positioned nicely between Santa Pa Ti, an X?, the new Pegasus [ex-Art Forms, the Open 50] and the newly modified Pyewacket. The 'kids' Morning Light are right on the end in public view. Interestingly, 'LOEREAL' the ex-Waterworld film trimaran we're racing, has received very little press. The US West coast, it would appear has not yet been shown the beauty of those two extra hulls. Cult Multihull has yet to make its stance. So 'Loereal' this Transpac, really is the quiet competitor. If we succeed as planned, to give the 'Wacket the slip and beat Disney to the barn door, the boat already has wings- isn't the next step a multihull?!"
I hope we see some more coverage of it in the race.
