Among the more eye-catching vessels in the (TRANSPAC) starting area yesterday was the former record-breaking catamaran Cheyenne, which has been reconfigured to be the camera platform for Morning Light. The boat will tail the TP52 as the crew sails across the Pacific this week and into movie theaters near you next year.

Better than seeing the old girl rot in some harbor. I mean she will continue to see the open sea and be useful.

I am with you, this boat hardly got tuned let alone to be an old girl....too much money.....

Really?!?! Steve has the wherewithal to go after all kinds of records. He’s had his successes and failures, but he keeps plugging away until he reaches his goal. Sounds like a guy many people would like to emulate.

Larry is, well, Larry. He’s a self-made gazillionair and confirmed blowhard but you’ve got to admire someone that will throw so much money around to have fun. You may say Bill Gates spends his money to improve the human condition and Larry wastes his on toys and gargantuan estates. I’d say that a lot of the money Larry has spent has created lots of jobs and improved sailing technology. It would have been very interesting if Larry had won and the AC was held on SF Bay. It’s a hell of a sailing venue for sailors and spectators.

Both Steve and Larry have won races and respect. You should stick to your technical rants.

Really it wouldn't take that much power to move her, that is what is great about cats, they are stable and efficient... thus equalling great camera boats!

I am pretty sure I remember Pete M saying that there are 2 200 hp motors on the boat. I have to say it gets up and goes. We are sitting near it, kind of on it's front quarter, when they put some juice to it and, I have to say, it was impressive. Seems pretty smooth through the water. At 125 feet it might be okay for some offshore stuff. Steve did not retire the boat he is just fitting it for another purpose. It would have taken lots of money to get up to the boats that are being built today, and maybe it would not get there. As Playstation, as well as Cheyenne, it had it's day in the sun. Steve is not done with her yet.

It would be impossible to get her up to date with the current boats. They are almost 10% faster than she was but for her time she was the hot rod.

For some reason she was my favorite of the G class Cats, I think it is the bows.

I believe that Fosset achieved most of what he wanted with Playstation. Since the new-Gen boats have come about this boat wasn't really marketable for sale, and to try and get it to keep up would involve a lot of cash.

Most of the time these boats would rot some where, at least this boat is still on the water being used, though not in its intended format.

As for Ellison, the guy come from absolutely nothing. Being able to become as successful as he has is extremely impressive.

Really, if you had the means wouldn't you buy some rediculously large toys?
