I am planning on using a spinlock pxr 810/sw swivel cleat for my traveler cleat. does anyone have any experience with this cleat in this setting? opinions please.

its for my 18HT. I'll be modifying the traveler to mount it on a bracket mid rear beam, similar to the N6.0 setup.

thanks

CC

I use them for spin tack and halyard but wouldn't for traveler or main because thay are hard to set and release. Great for lines you don't have to play though.

I have no experience using a spinlock in this application. I've sailed a couple of beach cats that used them for the main sheet cleat - and didn't think it offered any advantage over a conventional cleat.

The disadvantages I see in a traveller application:

- Bulkier
- Less reliable - I've had a couple of spinlocks blow up - but never a cam cleat
- More expensive

I'd stick with a cam cleat.

I had one on my old hobie 20. THat thing released on its own all the time, I took it off and went back to the cam cleat. It was the older style with the nylon cam so the newer alloys could be better, I dont know.

With a spinnaker rig I would be real hesitant. The last thing I need is for the traveler to dump on its own downwind in a blow.

I probaly error on the side of keeping the traveler and main too tight right now but ????

thanks for the feedback. i had no idea it would be received this negatively. I'll have to rethink this. i had all sorts of plans for the spinlocks to include the rotator. I don't think i'll use the spinlock headbanger for that either.
