Except for working what are people doing during winter?

I have been mucking around with JiVe trying to fix all the small things while the rebuild on nswmossie.com is turning out to be a long tedious job that hopefully will be worth the effort.

Other than that Friday I spent 4 hours down at Eastern Creek testing a 400hp XR8 race car and today I spent the day being a track marshall at the East Coast race series (motorcycles) at Eastern Creek as well.
Hoping to go out and do some more testing and training on JiVe with DKD as well.

William

Hi Will

This weekend I went to Bendigo, picked up 5 sheets of Gaboon Ply, and 3 sheets of other marine ply, and 4 half sheets of Gaboon/Other from Jim Boyer, And the most beautifully hand crafted centreboard you've ever seen, that was used as a plug, All for $114.

Also got a spare boom section and a length of aluminium (for lacing up tramps etc.) for all the silver and gold coins in my wallet (about $4.25)

Had a bit of chat for a while, he is sub contracting to Todd Pickering, building the mosquitos mainly as well as the Geltec Flyer.

His very empty factory had one mossie in there, which he was repairing.

Hes always been a really good guy to talk to, and although hes quite happy to be shutting down Boyer Fibrecraft, its real shame at the same time.

But I'm on a promise to finish off the boat before start off season, so thats my winter taken care of, still just a little bit to go, but finding the time recently has been the challenge, should start quieting down now though, which will help.

Regards

Hi William,

Didn't sail this weekend as I had my 2 young boys, but wandered down to the club to watch some others putt about in the cold and very light breeze. 3 A's, a Taipan 4.9, 3 PT's and a couple of mono's.

Will be getting in the water next weekend, Sat at McCrae, Winter dinner at the club that night to keep the fluids up<img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> , then heading over to Sugarloaf for a sail on Sunday.

Other than that, spending a little more time on this forum than I probably should.<img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Cheers

G'day Will,

I've bought a flying ant for my boys to sail which I have to do up.

It needs, new boom vang, down haul, outhaul, deck fittings, main sheeting system and sails. It also needs a complete spinaker system which can wait for the time being. The foils need repaired and the hull needs cleaned and polished. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> Hope it will be nice when it's finished. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

The mozzie trailor needs new bearings and wiring (dog chewed the wiring <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />).

Other than that, I've got my Mozzie to work on.

Plenty to see me through until sailing season. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I am still sailing my Mozzie, have been doing the winter races and some practising on my own. New sail arrived a week ago and I have been testing it out, attached is a pic Chris took yesterday,

Looking good. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Is that sail material slightly different?
Hand must be better.
How have your results tn the races been going?

It is almost the same shape, tapes are carbon instead of kevlar and it is a laminated sail, the carbon tapes are sandwiched between two thin skins.

I have used the sail once and had a couple of sessions stuffing around with it in the back yard, I think I like it, maybe, need to sail it more, hopefully tomorrow.

Hand is almost 100percent thanks Ben and the sand has returned to the beach, sailing is easy again.

The racing results have been good, not many to race against though, beat a Tiger across the line by 7 minutes and H16 by 15 two weeks ago(45 minute race), similar results in the second race, I dont think they were trying though. Definitely looking forward to when the rest of the cat sailors return to the water, two months to go.

I've been playing with 2 * 60cm R/C Tri's.
Bandit & myself got them off ebay cheap.
just another toy. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Only problen is my 3yr old son always wants a go
so I have to set the corse & sails then turn OFF the remote <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />then he gets a go untill I need to turn it around. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Surfing! I'm not very good so less crowded makes it easier to learn at the moment. Also Sugarloaf Sailing not open but not long to go now.

According to the Sugarloaf site sailing starts on the 29th July, here's the water level, http://home.vicnet.net.au/~slsail/water1.html

Got out the hair dryer last weekend and slowly and painfully <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> removed the trampoline from the Mozzie for repair. I haven't personally needed a hair dryer for many years <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> but I have a good supply of caps.

The trampoline front end rod connection strap/loop thingy was made from sail cloth and had ripped over time and had been taped up numerous times so I had to be careful not to put too much weight on it. This was a real pain when trying to concentrate on other aspects of racing.

Can anyone recommend another more durable repair material ? Is trampoline material itself any good ?

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter.

On a serious note, I read a thread on one of the forums here recently that asked that exact question re tramp material.

I had a "quick "search and couldn't find a link for you but it might be worth a look.

Cheers

Cleaning up after the lake has moved back out of our back yard (no shortage of water in this lake).
The floorboards in the "boat shed" tried to float away [Linked Image]

The water didn't quite reach the sail boxes fortunately.

All,

I am back at "school" now and will be basically until end of Nov...with breaks for opening day at home and a sail with the guys in NSW.

Other than that, my boat is back together, new mast basically done, new boards and now just waiting for youngest son to cut me a new main.

Youngest's boat is done and all pretty again too, he now has to do the things he wants to do but my lot (other than finishing his new mast) is done.

I am heading down to Sydney at some time to catch up with the crowd there.

Not many sleeps now until the season starts again...yayyyy

Well I finalised the details for the nsw state titles.
28-29 oct. in contunction with the top gun regatta at kurnell.

I mass start between all mossies (sloop and Cat) also with the rest of division 2 boats. I done this so we can show people that the mossies can compete with the other classes and also if your good enough you might be able to win something from the top gun regatta as well as from the mossie states.

A flyer will be finalised with all necessary details and posted up here and on the nsw mossie site

thanks
William
