Anchor your boat to the ground. On a traler or sitting on the beach. If your location could experence high winds. My H-16 was on the shore with the mast on and 100mph winds made it fly away! The mast is toast the boat is one month old. My H-14 was on a trailer in the yard and it also flipped the mast wasn't on the boat. Hope this saves some Hobies.

I always take an old car tyre with me. When transporting the boat, the tyre goes between the aft beam and the mast.
When on the beach I tie a length of rope to the tyre, bury it vertically and tie the rop to the dolphin striker. That provides sufficient anchoring for even the most severe winds.

I have an h16 trailer with an h14 on it. I always tie the front and aft crossbars to the trailer, and face it away from prevailing wind. Do you guys think this is adequate?

Nope.
I've seen trailers fly.

the wind seems to use the suspension of the trailer to get up a good bit of rock and roll momentum and over it all goes. get your boat low to the ground and not wobbling about.
