Anyone got a diagram showing where to locate retrieval line patches on spinnakers? A friend is setting up a N5.2 and needs instructions for his sailmaker.

you need to decide how long your chute is going to be and then see how many times the sail needs to be folded to get to that length.
F18's/20's need 3 patches but you may get away with 2 on a 5.2 like a H16.
if you are greedy and have your spinny too far up the mast, you may need an extra patch to get it to fit your chute.

Generally three are better with the centre one at a point where lines drawn from the task, clue, and head, to the centre of the opposite side, intersect.

Top one is positioned half way between there and the head and the bottom is half way toward the tack.

There are variations but that's what worked for me.

Make sure that the distance between the top patch and the head, and the bottom one and both tack and clew is less than the length of your snuffer, otherwise you'll end up with bits of sail hanging out the front of the snuffer. Having done this, if the distance between top and bottom patches is more than twice the length of your snuffer, you need a third.
