Disappointing turnout today. 16 skiffs and 1 f18 cat from Kurnell CC. Because of the one cat they put him in div2 against the only 18ft skiff. The boys on the skiff had a horrible day out there. The F18 looked like they had everything under control but after a debrief found out that it was hard work with not every thing going to plan. The F18 won both races on line honours and organisers where pretty confident they won each race on yardstick. Was blowing 15-20 knots no where near expected 30 knots. If any one wants me to post pics let me know.

Well I tried my luck today on the new mossie and it wasnt to bad a day and thats where it ended.
First race missed the start and went backwards quickly. Then while out on trap got smack by the wake of a motor boat and pitch poled in typical William fashion. Unable to right the boat recieved help by the rescue boat dnf 1st race. second race went a bit better (finished this one). Upwind went very slow and down wind went even slower. No matter what I did I had a c#$p looking main. I couldnt get enough purchase on the main from the centre sheeting position, there was something in the range of 3/4 of a metre from block to block. I found the rudders very hard to turn as well going up wind and down wind. Every time I went to tack the boat would stall.
Thats my whinge for tonight, alot more tuning needed for the states and national titles.
Next regatta for the sydney people would be the heartstarter regatta at Palm Beach CC on the 25/8 so if there are any sydney mossies wanting a sail here your chance for you to get rid of the cob webs.
Ciao William

I was the only cat to showed and it was fairly one way. Only 1 18 showed for all the racing and it was a League boat too. Breeze blew on Saturday and we came close to lapping the 18 in both races with a very obvious speed advantage. Upwind was not even close however off the breeze we were only marinaly quicker.
Day 2 we were slammed on the start in irons by a 49er and watched the whole fleet sail away. Then went to the wrong side of the course on the first upwind and found the 18 at the top mark when we were only half way up. It was catch up from there and the breeze was only light (single trapping). In these conditions we were slightly quicker upwing where the 18 had same speed but better VMG down with the number 1 kite. We sailed a bad second lap also, however started to pick the shifts on the 3rd lap and finished within 1/2 a minute of the 18.
Race 4 we started under the 18, sailed out from underneath and raced the same lines around the course in about 8 to 10 knot breeze. Had a very clear speed advantage and ended up finishing about 4 minutes infront on a shortened (2 lap) course.
Our bad race in race 3 cost us the regatta finishing 6th on VYC. A 12 skiff won which has a VYC of 92...... We have to give them 22 minutes every 100.
I must admit watching the fleet on the Saturday the 12's did look pretty spectacular while you could see the brute speed and acceleration out of your capricorn. A pity about the 3rd race I noticed you were a bit off on the start.
Stephen, I think I might have soughted out Jive for the states. Thinking about taking it out on Sunday if you want to come for a looksy.

sorry I couldn't help keep the skiffs quite this year. Look forward to catching up at Widcat or Top Gun. Am I correct in reading tht you had more line honours wins than the skiffs, afterall who cares about Yardsticks skiff racing is first in wins isn't it <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.

If its first in wins they would of won the regatta after the first race. Thay were that far ahead at the end of each race they could of gone back to the club had a bundy and debrief before the rest of the field finished.

1st and 2 race when fresh, nearly lapped the 2nd place boat (18 Skiff).
Race 3 which we balls up, finished about 30 seconds behind after quite some catch up work.
Race 4 won by about 4mins.
After race 2 we were back on shore, sails down, changed and beer in hand before the 18 came ashore.
On the first day I had Andrew Williams crew for me who is an amazing sailor and very smart tacktickly. He crewed for Steve Brewin at the F18 Worlds and came seventh.... First of the non pros.
Day 2, Greg Lynch who use to crew for Macca on the Tornado and Super Taipan sailed with me.
Both guys were amazing crew and a pleasure to sail with.
