Is anyone planning on going? I'm hoping to go on Saturday, might have to wait until Sunday though.

Even though I've lived on the Eastern Shore most of my life, I've never been to the show, it always seemed like something those "Tourist Morons" go to [Linked Image]

If I'm not mistaken, it was at the Annapolis Boat show where Hobie debuted the Getaway. I could be wrong.

I'm plannig on going Saturday. I heard there will be a large multihull display, but don't know if that means much in the way of beach cats. I think there will be a Jav 2 on display. Anyone know if Hobie or performance will be showing anything??

I havn't missed a show in about 10 years. I'm going to be there on Thurs. There is usually a small beachcat display. Other than International Fibreglass, none of the manufacturers seem to make it. A local Hobie dealer has a display and sometime a Inter 20 makes an appearance.Lots of BIG cats though. either way, it's a great show and I try to make it every year.

Make sure you're there for the absolute end of the show, when they start to break everything down. There's usually spots to watch from the Hotel, and you can get drinks. What's so fun? As soon as the show ends, workers start removing the docks and all the boats beat feet out of there. It's quite a dance - pieces of docks getting pushed this way, boats under power going that way, boats under sail weaving in between, and a crowd of cheering sailors praising the good seamanship and razzing the bad. Last time I did it I was treated to watching one of the J boats peel away, set an asymmetrical chute, and go ripping through the traffic. So, my advice, go two days - one to see everything you want to see. Then go the last day, when the merchants are having a fire sale, and stick around for the break-down.

Cheap hint - if you're looking for new bullet blocks (like for your jib sheets and such), the Harken booth has "keychains" for sale on the check out counter. They're bullet blocks with a key ring, and they sell for cheaper than the blocks themselves, but they're the real McCoy. Always good to have a few of these in the tool box. At least they did this last time...

Keith: I'll definitely be there sunday then.

I need a pair of ratchet jib blocks and track/travellers for my jib conversion on my 17. Was hoping to pick up some of those for a cheap price, also I was hoping to get some eyecandy in the way of some performance cats.

Eye candy maybe in short supply!

Greg T is racing at the Mega... so I don't think Hobie will have a Tiger on display Perhaps backyard boats will have one of the plastic boats on display.

Chip Z did not get a niche in the Catalina display so the F18 and Inter's won't be there.

I don't think that WF and the F18Ht's are planning on a booth either.

Fear Not.. Frank M always has an Isotope display though.

I find that both the powerboat and the sailboat shows are geared towards the big boats. Shopping is always good.

Hoping for good weather on Sunday though!

Take Care

Mark

If you're going to buy Harken hardware there make sure you know the regular prices going in, just to make sure you're getting a deal (true with anything you might buy at the show). If they're selling the ratchet blocks as keychains lemme know!!!!! ;-) Clothing type stuff is where the better clearance deals are at the end of the show I think. But you could probably get a good deal on a new F-31R!

Mark - Too bad the cat world won't be well represented beyond the Isotope (don't get me wrong, I like the Isotope). Any CRAC members available to walk around the show wearing a placard about local catamaran Fleets and handing out copies of the Examiner? I'd do it (honestly, I would) but I'll be on the Left Coast through the weekend. It's a shame Chip didn't get a spot, I was going to ask him if he'd put a pile of flyers out for the taking. Can't count on anything decent being done by Backyard Boats - I don't even know how they stay in business, or keep any status as a Hobie dealer.

Well seeing how I sail at Jordan lake, I get my fair share of isotopes, I was hoping for some better turnout. Oh well, I'll go drool and try and pick up my floating retirement home.

I've got the layline catalog practically memorized, and if I can't get a good price at the show, I'll just use my connections at layline to hook me up with some harken goodness.

Hello,

The Atlantic City and Annapolis shows are for newbies to either the sport or shore, I have found shore to be #1. The ex shorbie or bennie who moves here has the first priorities, first house, then boat.

If anybody has the opportunity it's the Southern Cali shows in which Hobie Corp shines. Why it's their territory. If you want to go to mecca of Hobie, it's got to be California.

While we on the beaches of the Jersey Shore has 6 mths of fabulous weather, we are still finding the ambiance that California entails.

Maybe in the coming years the resurgence of Surf City, Long Beach and Seaside will create the next Hobie capital if the PWC don't kill us all first.

Mike
