At the Spring Fever two years ago we had an F14 class, with two or three H14s and my Wave. When the wind picked up, they were a bit faster with their Hooters, but both H14s in the class capsized. No problem with the Wave with Hooter.., and I could have added a lot more sail area. Haven't had much time to do so, but I had plans for a huge Hooter, fairly large self-tacking jib. Every time I used it, it was screaming, but broke something every time (bow sprit exploded from the load one time). Still on the drawing board. Rick | | | Re: formula 14 +

Posts: 3,355 Key Largo, FL and Put-in-Bay, ... | Well, the one I am presently using is tried and has proven faultless. No breakage, good speed upwind and off the wind. When first playing with it I was fearful of having the halyard turning block to high. But, after test, found when it was lower, the speed was better, but would not live up to the handicap hit. So, I finally went masthead and it made all the difference in the world. The rig in the following link is what I presently recommend. http://store.catsailor.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=jmnrkomnk0As I said, If I could get the longer pole to work with the self-tacking jib, it would be really hot. For about a half mile I was staying with a Hobie 20. Rick | | |
