Posts: 46 | Does anyone know of a manafacture building / designing a new 20ft beach cat? Nacra 6.0 Great, Nacra 20 great, Hobie Fox, egh? I know there is the Marstom and other european high end, or carbon Pricey cats out there. I was curious if any insiders might know if Performance, Capricorn, Hobie, Blade or others might be coming out with a new 20ft production cat, not using completely high end materials, thus somewhat lower cost. I would think you could design and build a new 20ft cat using the lesson's learned from the F18 development, plus modern fiber and resin layup methods to produce a production 20ft beach cat, weighing 375lbs? Possibly a new level faster then the current I20. | | | Re: Any Manafacturers Building a new 20ft Cat?

Problem with the 20 footers is their position in the market.
Will be very hard to make a new 20 foot design economically viable.
I think this is the dominant cause holding back new 20 foot designs.

Possibly a new level faster then the current I20. Except for the mast, the Nacra 20 is all fiberglass and aluminum...not much high tech there. It weighs in at around 400lbs so why go to all the trouble to cut 25 lbs? The market for new 20 footers has really died out and the Nacra 20 (and Tornado) is about the last boat standing. The reason F18 pricing is so competitive is A) because they're selling so many of them and B) cross manufacturer competition.
