I have an h16 and i found a small soft spot about 8 inches in front of the front pylon. I was planning on putting in deck ports in both hulls. What steps do i need to take to fix it? It's very minor but i don't want it getting out of hand. What is the best materials to use? I am really good with my hands but have never done any fiberglass work like this before. Any help would be great!!

Hello,

Hopefully your soft area is small enough to be removed with the installation of deck ports. If not, you'll have to get some epoxy into the delaminated area. Cutting openings for the deck ports will go a long way to access the repair area. I installed them in my Hobie 16 a couple years ago and it is really easy. A "how to" article on installing ports is on the Beachcats website. http://www.thebeachcats.com/

Good luck,

Jack

There is a ton of info on soft spots on this forum. If you enter "soft spot" in the search field you can access the info.

Good luck.

I had this exact same problem with my H16 last year. When I was installing my deck ports, I used a can of foam to fill the delaminated area instead of epoxy, because it was about 3 feet long and almost as wide as the deck. Check out my prior posts by clicking on "HoldenBeachin" at the right then click "show all user's posts". It is another option. Good luck!
