Traverse Bay is a gorgeous place to sail (just a long, although very beautiful, drive to get there). Hobie Division 10 used to hold their divisional championships there sometimes back in the 1980s, and the Hobie 18 Nationals was held there once. The Sharks used to hold their Nationals up there every few years.

Grand Traverse Bay is actually split into two deep bays by a long, skinny peninsula that runs up the middle. I think we have been to events on both the east bay and the west bay.

The most striking thing is the Caribbean blue color of the water -- doesn't seem natural up there in the woods of northern Michigan.

Many years ago my wife and I closed up the house and camped the entire summer. We traveled from here to Glacier National Park, down the West coast and back home via the Grand Canyon, about 9600 miles total.

It's time to do something like that again! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Here is a pic from the 2004 A-class North American Championships at Traverse City. Great weather & wonderful venue.

Not enough algae to make it green, like our Florida lake water! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
