Hi My Esteem Sailors:

Although this question is kind-off for Robi since he lives in the area. Maybe someone else can help also.

I am going to visit family in the Ft Lauderdale, FL area in late Dic. and I am towing my a-cat with me. Where is a good place to sail around there? Is it worth it spending a couple of days sailing at the Keys or would sailing in the Ft Lauderdale area to make a midatlantic sailor happy enough?

Please advice

Cheers, Waldo

Ft Lauderdale's South Beach has a fleet. I believe its cat 44. www.cat44.com out of this small beach front club you have a very good A cat sailor and good friend of mine. Brett Moss. He is now sailing a Flyer. They usually sail out of there Saturdays and Sundays.

You also have Hobie Beach down in Key Biscayne, right off the Rickenbacher(sp?) Causeway. It is a nice place to sail out of, but sadly the Multi Million dollar Mega Yacht drivers have no clue to waterway courtesy and they usually drive up to you extremely close, or maybe its that they are trying to check out the boat, who knows. But it can get scary down there.

Then you have Founders park in Islamorada, or even the Islander resort 5 minutes further south on US1 in the Keys. Both are excellent places to sail out of. The Islander's concession stand is run by a fellow beach cat sailor, Team Morada captain (sorry but forgot the fellows name) I am sure he will be very accommodating.

Pick your poison and have tons of fun.

ps: I no longer live in the area, if not I would offer a ride on the blade.

Hi Robi,

Thanks!!!!! This is very informative.

Too bad you are no longer in the area, 'cause I would take you on the Blade offer. I am dying to sail one of those. If you are ever up in the VA Beach area, we have quite an active Cat sailing group up here (www.hobiefleet32.org).

Thansk, Waldo
