In my ongoing quest to rig a spin: Has anyone used a similar idea (or perhaps the smallest version) of the ATN Tacker instead of a spin pole on their cat?

http://www.atninc.com/tacker.html
(be sure to play the video to see it in action)

Also, note that their snuffer douses from the top. Is this a normal alternative? I thought most were on the pole, but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

no, and no. You have to go out on the bow to get a spinnaker sleeve snuffer to work and even then, there is a rediculous amount of windage up there. The tacker thing depends on a headstay and again, you probably need to go up on the bow to set it up (not practical on a cat)...we all double slot with spinnakers leaving our jibs up so you have two slots; one between the main and the jib, and the other between the jib and the spinnaker. Mo power and mo efficiency.

MMMMM HMMMM, love me sum mo power! N20 baby...
Papayamon, I recommend that you find a local sailor with a spin rigged cat and check out the snuffer system and the overall spin setup. It is much easier to understand when you are actually looking at it.
