i have an "82 hobie 16 that is yellow with an orange trampoline that is faded beyond repair that i am going to replace with a new one (and not orange!) i want to repaint the hulls white and also the mast and tramp frame flat black. what is the most cost effective method yet gives good results to do the hulls with a self leveling paint or epoxy to be done by brush? as for the mast and tramp frame, is a good Rust-0-Leum aerosol primer and paint going to do the job? as for popping the rivets on the mast for repainting and reriveting the parts, what size hole is to be drilled to remove the rivets? i am in vero beach, florida and want to make my banana yellow boat look bright white with a nice black mast and tramp frame! thanx for any help. also, what is the best solution to brighten my white rudders?
I painted my hulls with Polyurethane; the only problem is drying time, as poly will stay soft until volatiles are evaporated. Once this occurs hard as rock, as mine is after 3 months. The surface preparation is critical to dull done the previous paint.
I painted Rust-o-leum by brush, the paint is holding up very well. After all touchups will be required per season, and better control with brush.
The rivets were Dremeled out, thus no larger and immediate repair. I simply took head off with tool.
Bleach, after 3 days in pure bleach, 36-year-old rudders looked not a season old.
