Hey,

I am off to college next year and Eckerd in St. Pete/ tampa is one of my top choices.

Just curious whats up with the spinnaker boat scene down there?

Debating between a tiger or an inter 20 in the spring. I will bring whatever I get down there with me.

Thanks,

Todd

P.S.

I will be visiting the weekend before thanksgiving until monday... anyone gonna be around to go for a quick sail? sunday maybe? drop me an email if you will be wildtsail@aol.com

Hi Todd,

My name is Tom Leobold I sail a Nacra 6.0NA. There are several Nacra 6.0 sailing actively as well as several Inter 20's, a couple of mystere 6.0 and hobie 20. In the 18-19 foot range there are a number of nacra 5.5 mostly uni very well sailed, no tigers that I know of yet. There is a very good a-cat fleet here also. I'm sure others will add more they see. I would love to take you for a sail but I will not be here that weekend. Oh there is a big race that weekend at the Clearwater Sailing Cente you might check out.

Really depends on what type of sailing/crew you will be most likely to have. Obviously, there is a large and growing I-20 fleet in FL (12 active and traveling racers at this point). Several Tigers have appeared as well, and I have seen one or two at some of the marque races.... If you're on the lighter side, it's a tossup as to which would work best. I typically end up on the lighter side (with crew), and have an I-20, which is fantastic until winds over 15 mph. My heavier crew steps in and we're all set if that happens...

Also, there are some great distance races in FL, so think about hitting those if you have time. Check the NOR (notice of Race) on the Catsailor website for info on those...

Tiger, I-20, N6.0, M6.0... they're all solid boats, so you're sure to be in good company with whatever you feel suits you best...

Todd,
When you come down you might want to consider joining the Gulfport Yacht Club. We are located right on Boga Ciega bay, which is real close to Eckerd. We are a true sailing club, with races every other Saturday. We have 2 A cats, 3 Taipans, several Hobie 18's, Nacra's, Mystere's and more in our fleet. We have our own beach for launching and there will probably be room for mast-up storage for you. If your interested let me know and I will get you an application.
