I have had first hand dealings with the ISAF. In 2005 I attempted to organize a F 18 Worlds for the Performance Catamaran Class in Traverse City, Michigan. The ISAF is very strict on what is required. I violated a clause that stated the number countries represented by international judges must be three.
I was only able to get one international judge from the US. (Had to fly him in from Long Beach California)I also got two international judges from Canada (had to fly one in from Vancover and the other drove in from Toronto). To try to appease the ISAF I got two addional National judges from the US. Put the whole group up at the host hotel, paid all their expenses, which is the norm. Great guys all of them. Had 16 races over 4 days and had ZERO protests.Probably didn't need them. Bottom line. The event was not sanctioned. Bottom line for me. SCREW THE ISAF. Cost a fortune to try and meet their requirements, drove my budget into the toliet, didn't have a single protest.....they don't sanction the event. The ISAF is not there for the sailors. I will never organize another ISAF sanctioned event. I still have lots of energy regarding promoting mulithull sailing on the national level but SCREW THE ISAF!
