I just got a furler of ebay this weekend and need tips on setup etc.
Do I need to cut down the length of the main stay?
I guess I need to add a cleat of some sort on the main beam, Right?
If anyone has some pics that I can refer to it would be great.

What sort of roller-furler and what sort of boat?
Also, google that boat with furler in images and start there.
You have to decide foil or no foil.
Is your jib wired in the luff?
Start there and keep a conversation going here. People will help when they see you are helping yourself.

Foil is nice. Relieves the stress on the hulls. Had one on my 17 with a 78 sq. ft. reacher. Nice between races to furl or if the wind gets to be to much. Here is a pic.

I dont have a foil.....yet.
This seems like a real good idea. I went out this afternoon and rigged up the ferler, set the mast,& cut back the forestay so that it runs to the center of the chainplate, once I got started it went pretty good.
regarding the furling line, what's the best way of securing it at the main beam? I'm thinking just a clam cleat riveted next to the mast.
Now about the foil.
I've looked at them on other boats, dosn't seem to complicated. I guess I could make one myself with a peice of aluminum pipe and some cable. I'm pretty shure I could make one a lot cheaper than I can buy one.
Am I barking up the right tree?
If so, pics of other homebuilds would be nice.

Pipe should work and would really relieve stress to the hulls. Try this for the line. Feed furler line thru blck with becket and tie to bridle wire by fuler. Have the block be about 2" from the furler. With the jib unfurled and the jib sheets and block attached, just pull the 3/8" or so line and for every foot you pull it will furl 2. Real nice between race in moderate winds to keep it from flapping and when wind is to much. Be SURE to tie a figure 8 knot in the 3/8" line after feeding thru cleat so it won't slide back thru if it drags in the water. You can't get it back WITHOUT going in. REAL pain, be there, done that. Here is pics. If you have any questions, just PM me.

Hope this helps.

I added a Nacra 6.0NA foil to my P-19mx. It works great and has greatly reduced the toe-in forces loading on the boat. I tried wire at first for the bow-foil pigtail rigging,( 9" long from eye to eye) but they kept breaking quickly and cost big $$$$ for marine eye fittings. So I'm using 1/8 amsteel instead wrapped around several times tied-off and whipped, alot cheaper and it has lasted 2 years. I'll change them this year. I'm thinking of pulling the battens out of the mx jib and installing a furler this year since the jib makes flying the 25sqmeter spinnacker difficult. I would just lose my jib luff adjustment ability, but do I really need that adjustment if I'm only using the jib in direction???
