Paul Garlick won the Wave Nationals in great winds. See the full story and pix on the News Headline or Welcome Page of this site at www.catsailor.com or click on the logo for Catsailor on the upper left corner.

That is great! Rick your awesome for keeping this great event going! Did you say “Nationals” ? Man you are so in trouble with the ISAF for using that word for your event, I hope they do not arrest you. My family plans to attend your event next year. Boy wouldn't the Wave make a great youth boat. I own two Waves and my kids ages 9-15 race them and absolutely love them. So hopefully we will see you next time around for this event.

actually, it's the word "worlds" that is problematic.

Actually that is not what I was told when I was working on having a Hobie Bravo Nationals. Seems the ISAF has a list of words that should only be used for sactioned ISAF events. Its been a little while sense I looked into this so maybe things are different now.

Or how about if you combined the two titles, Worlds and Nationals, to one word, something like "Worshanals" or "Norlds". I'll bet the ISAF didn't copyright those! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

We have had trophies for Youth ever since we started doing the NATIONALS and for the last two years have not had any sign up.
Locally we now have a high school sailing team of about 17 kids and we sail on the same course with them while they practice, and could not get any of them to participate either.
Sad!
This has always been a great event and the most one-design sailing out there.

What do you attribute this to?

Was it a lack of loaner boats that kept the high school kids from participating?

Not really. If they had asked, there would have been some available. Heck, Scott Hubel had a dozen available in Melbourne. Would not have been that much hassle to get them here.
A few years ago we had several kids in the group.

Fly me down to Florida and I'll represent the Northeastern (colder) part of the US youth in the "Worshanals" for Wave!!
